The Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri has terminated the appointment of political aides whose loyalty lies with former Governor and serving Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, His Excellency, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.
Nigerdeltagist gathered the report from a reliable source in government house, reveals that Governor Douye Diri through the office of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Pereotubo Peter Akpe, sacked over thirty aides loyal to the former Governor, Senator Dickson.
According to the government house source, the over thirty aides of the governor were sacked over refusal to decamp to the All Progressives Congress, rather decamping to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, in show of loyalty, and commitment to the former governor as their leader.
Recall that Dickson is the founder and national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, and the party has gathered momentum in different states across Nigeria, especially in Bayelsa where critical stakeholders of APC, PDP, ADC, and other political parties are defecting to the party.
The source revealed that the aides who were sourced from community to community in Bayelsa West by the loyalists of the deputy governor, Dr. Peter Akpe, were angrily sacked as deliberate steps in fighting against the former governor, Senator Seriake Dickson over senatorial ambition.
Retrospectively, the Senator Douye Diri led administration is a product of the previous administration led by Senator Seriake Dickson, who handpicked the governor against all odds as PDP governorship candidate in the 2019 Bayelsa gubernatorial election, leading to his emergence.
Unfortunately, and regrettably, the late Deputy Governor, Dr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who had a joint-ticket as deputy governorship candidate to Senator Douye Diri in the election, died mysteriously December, 2025, and was replaced by Dr. Peter Akpe as Deputy Governor by the Governor.
The source revealed that the late deputy governor was a huge threat to the current deputy governor, who served as acting chief of staff, and chief of staff, has been recruiting people in Sagbama local government area to fight the former governor.
The preacher’s nomination as deputy governor, which sparked reactions, was described as deliberate steps of Governor Douye Diri in fighting against his predecessor, Senator Seriake Dickson, whose generosity he became house of reps member, senator, and governor of Bayelsa.
The government house source who has worked closely with the deputy governor since the inception of the government, described the fight against former governor as an act of ingratitude and betrayal, adding that the duo are setting a wrong precedence in Bayelsa state politics.
The source added that the same way Governor Douye Diri is fighting his predecessor, Senator Seriake Dickson, same way whosoever takes over as Governor will fight him.
