As the 2027 general elections draw closer; there are speculations that the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri has perfected arrangements to use one of his personal assistant, Julius Eddy for the senatorial seat in Bayelsa West.
The Bayelsa West senatorial seat; which is currently occupied by the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson has faced criticism of deprivation of the Ekeremor people who feels it is their turn to occupy the senatorial seat.
The senatorial district comprising two national assembly offices, the senate and house of representatives; the senatorial position is occupied by Senator Henry Seriake Dickson from Sagbama, while the house of representatives is occupied by Rt. Hon. Fredrick Agbedi from Ekeremor.
The two national assembly offices occupied by both local government areas in the senatorial district since 1999; tends to face fierce political power battle in the 2027 general elections–as various contestants has indicated interest to contest.
As political permutations towards the next political dispensation tends to gather more momentum in bayelsa west; a source reveals that the honourable minister is preparing his personal assistant for the ruling party, the APC senatorial ticket.
APC tends to face fierce contest in the party primaries than opposition parties; as contestants such as the likes of a philanthropist, Chief Otiki Gbodo, former deputy governor, Rt. Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi, including others has declared interest to battle the senatorial ticket under the party.
Reliable sources in the APC reveals that Senator Heineken Lokpobiri has perfected preparations with the Governor, Senator Douye Diri, who is the leader of the party to handpick the honourable minister’s personal assistant as senatorial candidate of the ruling party in Bayelsa West.
Lokpobiri, who was compensated with commissionership and local government chairmanship slots for supporting Governor Diri during his re-election bid in 2023, revealed that the governor is so much indebted to him–as one who mediated meetings to connect Diri to the presidency.
The sources further revealed that the honourable minister’s preferable senatorial candidate in Bayelsa West, are steps towards preparations for his governorship ambition in the 2027 Bayelsa gubernatorial election.
Another source revealed unknown to Lokpobiri and his followers, the governor and his deputy preparing a senatorial candidate who is a retired military general from their material home, Ayamassa community, to contest under the ruling APC against the incumbent Senator, Dickson.
An interesting political dispensation ahead of the APC in Bayelsa State; as there will be clash of interests in the state and national assembly elective offices driven by desperate measures to take hold of leadership structures for control and relevance.
